During Chapter 5, Alvin and Phillip are both confronted by corrupt FBI agents, asking about how Alvin was doing (yeah... right) and if they knew of any Jewish resentment towards President Lindbergh. The major reason the FBI was after Alvin was because he had served in a foreign countries military and fought against an "ally" of the president. Canada had a much different viewpoint of the dictator over in Germany, seeing that his ways were completely evil and sadistic. Incredibly, since Alvin had gone to fight for what he believed was right, he was being watched like a little child. His every move like his illegal gambling habits and his anti-Lindbergh views. The slightest wrong move could result in him being shot or beaten or thrown in jail for the rest of his life. As for the rest of the Roth family, the FBI was questioning Phillip because of his father Herman. Herman STRONGLY opposed Lindbergh, as if it was a passion, using information from Winchell on the radio and others in the Jewish community and his basic gut feeling. With his son in the Just Folks organization, he believed that Lindbergh was just going to use the Jewish community of the U.S. in order to do break-back work. Sandy, Phillips brother, thought otherwise since he was the president for the Just Folks in Newark. He went to Kentucky and had to do the work, which caused almost a shapeshift in Sandy because his views of Lindbergh as a bad man were completely reversed. He was a hero, always in Sandys heart. Herman did not like this at all. His own family was disagreeing with his views and he couldn't do anything to stop it, so what better way to deal with problems than speak his mind. Speak about how terrible the policies of Lindbergh are and how he is moving the Jewish people to the southern states in order to murder them all. It must have been Sandy who, though not intentionally, got the FBI breathing down the family's neck. Some justice the FBI is serving to the American people if they are following the Lindbergh way of anti-semetism.
